Heuchera 'Royal Velvet' (PP#16,335) is a 2004 introduction notable for its rich dark purple and silver foliage with velvety fuzz.

Growth Habit - It forms a loose mound of foliage about 8" high X 12" wide. The flower stems rise to about 24".

Foliage -
The leaves are about 4" across and burgundy marked with silver on the upper side and dark red-purple on the underside. The leaf petioles are enhanced by dense, lighter colored fuzz.

Flowers -
The showy flowers are white from pink-purple buds and are borne in late spring.

Special Features -
The velvety pubescence of 'Royal Velvet' is unusual and makes an interesting contrast with other shade garden foliage like hosta or Japanese painted fern.
